Pursue Quality in Education Delivery- UCC tells its Affiliate Institutios

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole has called on institutions affiliated to UCC to put in place structures to ensure that they maintain quality in their bid to provide tertiary education to their students.

Prof. Kuupole pointed out that “UCC stands for quality and therefore the University expects all its affiliated institutions to also pursue the same agenda.”

The Vice-Chancellor made this call when he led a team from UCC to pay working visit to some institutions affiliated in the Greater Accra and Eastern, Western and Central Region Regions. Other members of the team were the Chairman of Committee of Institutional Affiliation (CIA), Prof. Benjamin Abotchie Ntreh; Deputy Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs, Mr. Jeff Teye Onyame ; Junior Assistant Registrar, Institutional Affiliation Office, Mr. Justice Gabriel Agyenim Boateng and Principal Research Assistant, Mr. Peter Thompson Fosu.

Prof. Kuupole explained that UCC as a mentoring University would continue to offer mentorship to affiliated institutions to also attain the status of a full fledge University so that they can award their own degrees. He stated that a lot of new institutions were still applying to UCC for affiliation and therefore the University would not want to still keep its mentored institutions forever. He advised the affiliated Universities to conform to the standards set by the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) and the National Accreditation Board (NAB) in order to earn a Presidential Charter as a full University.

The affiliated institutions thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the visit and commended UCC in general especially the Institutional Affiliation office for their hardwork in coordinating their relationship between them and UCC. They also expressed appreciation to the team of moderator for the assistance and directions they continue to give them in the restructuring of their academic work. They used the opportunity to also share some concerns which bothered on academic work, affiliation fees, moderation of programmes and directives from the National Accreditation Board.

In the Greater Accra Region, the team visited Kings University College, Wisconsin International College, Joyce Ababio University College. Others were Dominion University College, Maranatha College, Marshalls College, Methodist University College and Entrepreneurship Technological Institute. The Vice-Chancellor and his team also visited St. Nicholas Seminary in the Central Region and Ashesi University College, Berekusu in the Eastern Region and Community College, Sekondi Takoradi.

The Vice-Chancellor later signed Memorandum of Understanding with some of the Universities the team visited.
