Examination Malpractices: Brong Ahafo Tops All – WAEC

A Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Pre-tertiary Education, Alex Kyeremeh, has pledged to lead a crusade to fight against examination malpractice in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Among the 10 regions of Ghana, the Brong Ahafo Region topped the list in an examination malpractice report released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Wednesday.In 2014, about 4000 students were caught cheating in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the region.

WAEC also recorded 2,373 cases of malpractice in 2009. The figure however jumped to 4, 201 and 3,439 cases in 2011 and 2012 respectively while in 2013, the number increased to 5,653.

The entire country recorded a total of 8,051 of examination malpractices.

 

In an interview with Citi News during a stakeholders meeting by WAEC in Accra, the Deputy Education Minister who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman North in the Brong Region indicated that he will collaborate with the Council will find effective ways of dealing with the canker.

“If we are able to identify how they are able to cheat, we will be able to have a remedy for that,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the acting Director General of the Ghana Education Services (GES), Jacob Kor, has hinted that the Service will strictly enforce the ban on the use of mobile phones by students in schools.

“We are also saying that the mobile phones should not be sent by students to school because it will distract their studies,” he stated.
