Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the
Ashanti Regional Police Command (ARPC) has commissioned the second Police Post at Kotei
and two others within campus: one on the Ring Road near Susakyi and the other at the SSNIT
Hostel area popularly referred to as Gaza.

The three posts were constructed by Enext Construction Ltd. at a cost of one hundred and forty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢145,000).

In a speech, Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST mentioned that it was the dream of the university to make the presence of the police felt within and around the campus and also to decentralize the
Security Service.

He explained that student numbers had increased over
the past years with a greater number of the students staying outside the university campus.

This had transformed most of our surrounding communities into full-fledged university villages
with different types of economic activities.

The result was an extra strain on these communities especially with respect to security and other
social amenities.

He added that in tandem with the core mission of the university to provide the right environment for teaching, research and
entrepreneurship training in science and technology for the industrial and socio-economic
development of Ghana, Africa and other nations, it was imperative that the university ensure the
security and safety of the students and staff of KNUST, especially, those who stayed off-campus.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ashanti Region, DCOP Kofi Boakye also showed his appreciation to the management of KNUST for their immense effort to make the safety of both staff and students outside campus
a priority.

He used the platform to
show his discontent with the traditional leaders of Kotei for their refusal to show enough concern and support for the security of their people by refusing
to release land for a befitting police station.

They now had only a police
post even though they deserved a police office.

He concluded that the police had recorded over 100 cases of crime in the area over the past 6
months.

They had as well retrieved a lot of
phones, laptops and other electronic gadgets belonging to students in and around Kotei. He
advised hostel owners and managers to provide walls around their hostels to help promote
security in the area.

Prof. Ellis on behalf of the university donated four (4) motorbikes to promote community patrol duties for the police posts and a laptop to
the Manhyia Division to assist them in their database management and crime information processing.

KNUST School of Business on behalf of the university also agreed to run a workshop
on client handling and management for personnel within the Manhyia Division.

Rev. Dr. Peter Addai Mensah, the Catholic Chaplain, commissioned the police Post.
